Greece, Athens

We were in Athens for a week. It was one of my dream destination mainly because I have been fascinated by Greek mythology for a while now. I even took two courses on Greece and its mythologies. So it was definitely a dream come true when Oren said that maybe we can go to Greece before we go on our annual trip back home to Israel. And it's near so we can save a bit. And to Athena we went! Before we went, we planned and planned because this was the first time we are going on a trip alone. No parents or any adults to guide us, so we are on our own. We planned as much as we can. We rented a Airbnb(it was a very nice apartment and we saved quite a lot opting for an airbnb instead of a hotel) and it was very close to the metro station, Evangelismos , and that was our mode of transport for the whole week and also lots of walking. It's great that we stayed in an area where it's easy to get around and that most of the attractions were 'around the corner'.

It was amazing to be able to see all those things that you read about. On the second day, we had a Mythology tour and it was really interesting to hear about the myths and also the history behind all these monuments and ruins. We went up the Acropolis and saw the parthenon. We saw the Temple of Zeus, the agoras, more temples. We had mainly Greek vegetarian food., and pastries.  We even had a day trip to Meteora to see the monasteries. We walked a lot. We saw a lot I think. I'm sure we didn't get to see all of what Athens is but it was still quite a lot. And it was amazing. I would like to go back if I could, if not to Athena, then to other parts of Greece, like Crete or Rhodes.

Greece was nice. It was cold mostly as it was still at the end of winter but sometimes when we are walking by the sidewalks, you will just smell oranges. Oranges were everywhere. It was a nice citrus-y smell. We did learn some of the Greek alphabets on Duolingo before we went and it was definitely useful whenever we remember what those alphabets are. It was definitely a good travelling experience.

It was also nice to experience our first adult vacation, just the two of us, in a totally new place. We survived our vacation. We can't wait for our next one and hopefully it is somewhere historical too.
